Row for Amy talk by Andrew Osborne at Wold Escapes a great success!
Guests joined us at Wold Escapes on Friday 15th September for an inspiring talk by Andrew Osborne
Andrew Osborne shared with an audience at Wold Escapes his remarkable journey rowing solo across the Atlantic Ocean for a charity very close to his heart. Guests were treated to a welcome drink and homemade canapés made in the Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School kitchen, before settling down to hear Andrew’s inspiring talk.
It was a story of determination, heart, and hope that Andrew Osborne shared with us about his incredible journey of rowing solo across the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. This awe-inspiring feat was not only a personal accomplishment but a mission to raise vital funds for the ‘Cardiac in the Young’ charity.
Andrew Osborne undertook this huge challenge, rowing an astonishing 3,000 miles completely on his own across the Atlantic Ocean over the course of three months. His sole purpose? To generate essential funds for ‘Cardiac in the Young’, an organisation dedicated to identifying undiagnosed heart conditions in children and young individuals.
The Amy Osborne Memorial Fund
Embarking on this expedition in January 2023, Andrew’s solo and unsupported voyage showed unwavering dedication. The funds raised are for the Amy Osborne Memorial Fund, established in loving memory of Andrew’s daughter, Amy Osborne. Tragically, Amy passed away at the age of 25 due to an undetected heart condition. She became one of the 12 young people who die each week in the UK from this cause, and like Amy, 80% don’t experience any symptoms.
Amy’s memorial fund set up by Andrew’s family at the charity CRY has so far raised enough money to pay for over 500 children and young adults to be screened as well as contribute funds towards research and raise awareness to help save lives. The money fundraised through Row For Amy will be used to test hundreds, possibly thousands more children and young adults for undiagnosed heart conditions and consequently save lives.
Andrew’s Story
Andrew delved into into his experiences, challenges, and triumphs during his extraordinary journey. His resilience proved that age and physical limitations are no match for a determined spirit.
“I’m a 57 year old man with only 1 finger on one hand and I quite literally single handedly rowed 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean. Yes, it took training, research and a year’s worth of preparation but if I can do it, I truly believe anyone can.”
Andrew Osborne.
