Wold Escapes is situated within acres of private farmland and our guests have exclusive access to our private footpaths which run across the land and encompasses our very own chalk stream. Chalk streams are globally rare and their environment supports a high number of species, these habitats are sometimes described as “England’s rainforests” and are home to wildlife including brown trout, herons, barn owls, stoats, water voles, newts and frogs.

There is so much cycling to enjoy in and around the Yorkshire Wolds. The country lanes which navigate the rolling chalk hills are ideal for cyclists and lead to some spectacular views.

Wold Escapes is the perfect place to stop off and unwind for night or use as a base for the duration of your trip. We have secure undercover storage for your bike, and if you’re cycling as part of a group our Bed and Breakfast rooms have a shared living room ideal to catch up and share stories on an evening after a hard day’s cycling.

Wold Escapes is situated on the Way of the Roses cycle route, a relatively new cycle route which starts in Morecambe on the Lancashire coasts and travels 170 miles to East Yorkshire coastal town of Bridlington.

Pocklington

The classic English market town of Pocklington is located at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds. Pocklington has an array of shops, places to visit and stay and lovely eateries, all surrounded by glorious countryside.

A star attraction of Pocklington is Burnby Hall Gardens which is home to a National Collection of Hardy Water Lilies – the biggest such collection to be found in a natural setting in Europe.

Castle Howard is one of Britain’s finest historic houses, situated just outside York in the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Built over 300 years ago by Sir John Vanbrugh, today it remains home to the Howard family.

East Yorkshire Beaches

We have some amazing beaches on the East Coast not far from us at Wold Escapes. A few of our favourites are:

Fraisthorpe Beach is ideal for dog walkers with miles of open space.You will often see horses and riders down here as well as families playing in the sand.
Danes Dyke woodland leads to a small, seclude cove with views looking out towards Bridlington Bay.

Flamborough North Landing and Thornwick Bay are scattered with caves along the shoreline and perfect for exploring, or enjoy panoramic views at Flamborough lighthouse.

Beverley

Beverley is a thriving traditional market town and its Market Cross still stands proudly in the centre of its bustling marketplace.
Visitors are attracted to this well-loved town by a variety of options, you can enjoy a day at the races, do some boutique shopping, have a quiet drink in an historic pub and a meal in an increasing number of café-bars and restaurants.

The Flemingate Shopping Centre, which is also packed with leisure options, and has dramatically transformed an area in the town once known for its tannery.

Explore the wide-open pastures of Beverley Westwood, visit the magnificent 13th-century Beverley Minster or a stroll along the Beck.

Tophill Low Nature Reserve

The reserve is an active Yorkshire Water Treatment Works supplying Hull from two huge reservoirs protected for wildfowl. Bird hides look over 300 acres of surrounding woodland, wetland and grassland flanking the River Hull that have recorded 270 bird species since 1959.
