- No membership needed
- Rackets and balls available, so being new to padel needn’t hold you back
Never played padel before?
Padel (sometimes called padel tennis) is a sociable racket sport that borrows from both tennis and squash. It’s played on a smaller, enclosed court where the glass walls are part of the game, so a ball that’s gone past you isn’t always lost.
The underarm serve and compact court make it one of the easiest racket sports to pick up. Most beginners are enjoying proper rallies in their first session, and there’s plenty to learn if you get hooked. It’s a brilliant way to get active, catch up with friends and have a bit of friendly competition without taking it too seriously.
How do you play padel?
Here are the basics to get you started.
- Singles or doubles
Padel is traditionally played as doubles, with two players on each side of the net. At Wold Padel we also have a dedicated singles court for one-on-one games.
- Scoring
Scoring is the same as tennis: 15, 30, 40 and game. A set goes to the first team to win six games by a two-game margin, with a tie-break at 6-6. For a first game, though, don’t worry about the score. Just enjoy the rallies.
- Serving
The serve is underarm. Stand behind the service line, bounce the ball once and strike it at or below waist height into the service box diagonally opposite. As in tennis, you get two attempts, and the receiver must let the serve bounce before returning it.
- Using the walls
This is where padel gets properly fun. The ball can bounce on your side of the court and then rebound off the glass, and you can still return it. You must hit it before it bounces on the floor a second time. You can volley too, except when returning a serve.
- Winning the point
You win the point if your opponents can’t return the ball before its second bounce, hit it into the net or send it out of play. When you return the ball, it must bounce on your opponents’ side first, before it touches their walls or fence.
That’s really all there is to it. Once you’re on court, the rules and the walls make sense very quickly.

Wold Padel isn’t just for regular bookings. The barn is a fun, flexible venue for corporate team building, work socials, birthday parties and get-togethers with friends.
With a private booking, your group has exclusive use of the barn, so there are no other players and no pressure, even if half of you have never held a padel racket. You’re welcome to bring your own food and drink to enjoy away from the courts, which turns a game into a full “Padel and Party” event.
