August in the Yorkshire Wolds is hard to beat. Long evenings, golden fields, and plenty to see and do within easy reach of Wold Escapes in Southburn — whether you’re pitching up on the touring park, settling into one of our glamping cabins, or spreading out in the farmhouse.
We’ve pulled together the best of what’s still on this month, plus some brilliant places to visit any day of the week, all within about an hour’s drive. Book your dates and start planning below.
Still to Come This Month
Bridlington Spa — Live Shows Through August
The East Coast is calling, and Bridlington Spa has a packed programme running right through the rest of August:
- 9 to 5 The Musical — 11–15 August, Dolly Parton’s feel-good hit about three women who’ve had enough
- ABBA Forever — 14 August, a note-perfect tribute night
- The Big Indoor Britpop Festival — 21 August, an evening of 90s indie and Britpop classics
- This Feeling By The Sea — 29–30 August, a two-day festival of up-and-coming rock and indie acts on the seafront
- One Night of Billy Joel: The Piano Man — 30 August, a tribute to the man himself
Around 40 minutes from Southburn, it’s an easy evening out — grab fish and chips on the harbour beforehand, then head back to your glamping cabin.

Farmers and Makers Market, Driffield — 30–31 August
Round off the month with a trip into Driffield for the Farmers and Makers Market — a great chance to pick up local produce and handmade goods to take back to your farmhouse kitchen, or simply to browse on a lazy bank holiday weekend.
Beverley Folk Festival
Beverley’s much-loved folk festival brings live music to venues around the town through August — another easy addition to a Wolds break if you fancy a night of live music without a long drive home.
Things to Do Any Day This Month
Not everything worth seeing is tied to a date. These are our go-to recommendations for filling the days either side of an event, or for a stay with no fixed plans at all.
Sledmere House & Gardens
A beautiful Georgian country house right in the heart of the Wolds, near Driffield — Sledmere House has an octagonal walled garden, parkland walks, a farm shop and a café, plus an adventure playground for the kids. The gardens are open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday (plus Saturdays in August), with guided house tours on selected dates. Barely 20 minutes from Southburn.

RSPB Bempton Cliffs
One of the UK’s great wildlife spectacles — towering chalk cliffs alive with half a million seabirds between March and October, including gannets, guillemots and kittiwakes. Six safe viewpoints give you clifftop views straight out over the North Sea. About 45 minutes away, and a brilliant half-day out for anyone into nature or photography.
Sewerby Hall and Gardens
A Grade I listed Georgian house set in 50 acres of clifftop parkland just outside Bridlington, with award-winning gardens, a small zoo and sweeping sea views. Sewerby Hall makes for an easy, relaxed day out — pack a picnic or stop at the café.
Burton Agnes Hall
A stunning Elizabethan manor house between Driffield and Bridlington, filled with five centuries of art and treasures. The walled garden includes a maze, giant games and a jungle garden, with woodland walks beyond — great for a family day out, roughly 25 minutes from Southburn.

Beverley Town and Minster
Beverley itself is always worth a visit, whatever’s on — cobbled streets, independent shops, and the magnificent Beverley Minster, one of the finest Gothic churches in England. About 30 minutes from Southburn, and easy to pair with lunch in town.
